La Academia was delighted to announce that Daniel Primiani, 5th Grade English Immersion Teacher, has been named La Academia's 2021 Teacher of the Year!! Get to know Mr. Primiani better!
Hi! My name is Dan Primiani and I’m currently one of the 5th grade ELA/Social Studies teachers at Academia Antonia Alonso!
I just wrapped up my third year of teaching at La Academia (seventh year of teaching overall) and recently completed by pathway to certification through the ARTC program at Wilmington University where I received my master’s degree in special education. I earned my undergraduate history degree at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland and, before that, graduated from St. Andrew’s High School in Middletown, Delaware. Prior to working at La Academia, I spent two years teaching in Kent County, Maryland where I also was a high school football, wrestling, and baseball coach. Go Trojans!
At La Academia, I run both the Junior Jaguar Wrestling Club and Baseball Clinic and am hoping to start an extracurricular football program as well! I’ve served as the teacher representative on our school board for the past two years and served as the 5th grade team leader from 2018-2020. Starting in the 2021-2022 SY, I’m hoping to initiate a “Big Buddy” mentoring program by which our students learn and come to appreciate the values of leadership, empathy, and comradery as they work together throughout the year.
This past year, I’ve spent much time reworking our school’s Social Studies program and am presently curriculum writing for grades 1st-5th. My hope is to create a truly special learning experience for our students that will set them up for success both in and out of the classroom in middle school and beyond.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Rachel, our son, Jackson, and our three-year-old beagle-mix, Mose. I live in Newark, Delaware and am a diehard Philadelphia Eagles fan (in my free time, I maintain a sports column for a Philly sports website). I love working at La Academia and look forward to continuing helping the school evolve and grow in the years to come!
